Depending on the regions of the world's waters they're churning through, they are sometimes called typhoons, cyclones, or Hurricanes.
Unlike Japan, in other regions of the world hurricanes get names.
Growing up in Florida it was only girls names at first but now it's both girls and boys as boys are getting into the act as well.

Is there life after the olympics?
After 16 days of non-stop Olympic coverage on the TV things felt pretty quiet today. I almost didn't know what to do with my self. No medal standings to check in the morning newspaper, no reruns of the highlights to watch and no settings for the DVD recorder. Basically it's all about trying to find my normal life again that I had before the Olympics started. I'm somewhat relieved that summer Olympics happens only every four years, but then again
wouldn't it be kind of cool to try to attend the games at least once in my lifetime.

Final days in 北海道 (Hokkaido)
After leaving Ikeda we headed for Cape Erimo. There is actually a famous song about the cape, but I'm not sure how it goes.Anyway this particular cape is very well known for having really strong winds. After our three hour drive from Ikeda we arrived at the cape just in time to witness a beautiful sunset.
Dolphin show
As soon as we arrived, we rushed to the dolphin show!
It seemed to me that they are really intelligent and love people.
So cute ...!

脱線 from the main route. Taking the road less traveled.
On August 10th Ken and I made a radical decision to get off the beaten path.
We'd had our fill of large amounts of tourists swarming around all the popular tourist attractions.
It was time to find roads less traveled and do our own thing. It didn't take along before we realized that we had made the right decision.
The roads were empty and sometimes we were the only ones on the road except for the odd farm tractor. It was like we had a special chunk of Hokkaido all to ourselves.
Foods in Niigata
Niigata is said that "Nihon no Komedokoro" which means most of rice in Japan is made here. The name of the rice is Koshihikari.
None of Japanese do not know this name.
Then, I found a wired Icecream,,,,which is in the first picture. It is named Koshihikari Icecream...RICE ICECREAM?!
Cyclist finds the ultimate connection with his bicycle and the sun - 空や自転車と話せるようになった
Hiroshi is 20 years old and a third year student at a University in Hyogo
He boarded the ferry from Maizuru and arrived in Otaru on July30th to begin his month long cycling adventure around Hokkaido.
He will finish on August 30th also in Otaru.
We met him in front of convenience store in Hiro which is on the way to Erimo Misaki.(Cape Erimo)
We chatted about his experiences so far.
I find this young man to be extremely inspiring!
His efforts should definitely be applauded!
I found his budget for the trip to be especially interesting.
